How to save compressed images on your phone

A completed compression and a saved photo are two separate steps. Download sends the processed file to your browser’s download location; it does not guarantee that the picture appears in Photos or Gallery. Keep the tool tab open until you have saved and checked your result.

Choose the saving method you need

iPhone and iPad: find the file, then save to Photos

  1. After compression, tap Download on the completed image.
  2. Open Safari’s downloads list, or open Files and look in Downloads. Check iCloud Drive or the location selected in your browser settings.
  3. Open the downloaded image. Use its share menu and choose Save Image if that action is offered.
  4. Check Photos for the saved copy. If Save Image is unavailable, you can still use the downloaded file directly in a compatible upload form.

Alternatively, return to the completed row and choose Preview / Save to Photos. Tap Share image if shown, then choose an available destination. Pressing and holding the preview may also show image actions. The options depend on your browser, file format and installed apps; the website cannot guarantee a particular system menu.

Android: check Downloads before looking in Gallery

  1. Tap Download on the completed image and finish any browser download prompt.
  2. In Chrome, open the menu and select Downloads. You can also look for the file in your phone’s Files app.
  3. Open the file to confirm that it is the compressed copy. A gallery app may show it in a Downloads album, but visibility varies by device and app.
  4. If you want to send the picture to another app, use Preview / Save to Photos and the Share image button where supported, or share the downloaded file from Chrome.

Chrome also supports pressing and holding an image to access download options. See Google’s Android download instructions. If Gallery does not display the picture, that alone does not mean the download failed: first check whether Files can open it.

Why a ZIP download does not appear as a photo

A ZIP is an archive containing images, not an image itself. On iPhone or iPad, locate the ZIP in Files and tap it to create a folder containing the extracted files. Open that folder and choose a picture. Apple explains this in its ZIP extraction guide.

On Android, open the archive with a file manager that supports ZIP extraction and use its Extract action. Labels vary by app. If extraction is inconvenient, return to the still-open tool tab and download the pictures individually instead. Failed compression rows are not included as successful images in the archive.

When sharing or saving is unavailable

If Share image is missing, use Download or try the preview’s long-press menu. If a share action fails or is canceled, the result remains available in the tool. Closing the system share menu does not prove that a picture was saved; check the destination you selected.

Browsers embedded inside messaging or social apps can offer different download controls. Open the website in Safari or Chrome and process the original there if necessary. Your current compressed result stays in the original tab: opening the same website elsewhere does not transfer it. Refreshing or closing the tab also clears these temporary results.

Keep the file within the upload limit

Saving through another app can change an image’s encoding or size. For a strict KB limit, use the direct download and check the file you actually submit. Avoid taking a screenshot of the preview: it creates a different image with different dimensions and bytes.

Prepare a new image with the 100 KB compressor, 150 KB compressor or 200 KB compressor, according to your destination’s allowance. If the correct download is still rejected, follow our upload troubleshooting guide to check format, pixels and minimum size.
